What are your hours of operation?
Our operating hours are: Monday through Friday 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Saturday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The pools will close a half hour before the facility closes.
How do I become a member?
Visit our Application and Forms page to fill out or download a membership application. You can also stop by during operating hours for an application more information. We invite you to take a tour of our facility to learn more about enrolling in membership. Tours are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
Will you help me find the right activities?
Absolutely! Fitness, aquatics and recreation specialists are on hand every day to ensure that you make the best and most appropriate choices for your fitness and wellness needs. We offer a variety of general and diagnostic-specific classes in each program area. Talk to a specialist today to begin meeting your fitness goals.
What if I need special equipment in order to participate or would like to try an activity requiring specific equipment?
Lakeshore offers a wide variety of adapted exercise, recreation and athletic equipment that is readily available to our members. Our goal is to provide you the opportunity to try any activity that will be a safe form of physical activity. This equipment includes all types of bikes, sport wheelchairs, adapted fitness equipment and a variety of aquatic equipment to help you safely use the pool.
Will family members be able to join me in the program?
YES! We invite you to bring your family to Lakeshore to pursue fitness goals together. Family members living in your household are eligible to join with you, whether or not they have a physical disability or chronic health condition. Many of our youth programs are also open to siblings who do not have a disability.
What if I need personal assistance in order to participate at Lakeshore?
If you need assistance with your physical and/or personal care or use of equipment, Lakeshore is glad to welcome your caregiver as your guest. Caregivers can be members of your family, friends or a paid assistant. Please note that all caregivers are asked to complete a caregiver agreement which will be kept on file at the front desk. Caregivers should check in and receive a blue armband at each visit.
Are there age restrictions for any programs?
Membership is for individuals age six months and up. Some programs are tailored to meet the needs of particular age groups, but there are many choices for all age groups and ability levels. Members must be 14 years old to exercise in the fitness area.
Will I receive personal attention from the staff?
Yes. We are committed to maintaining the quality personal service you expect. Our qualified and experienced staff includes many who are considered national experts.
Is there plenty of parking?
Yes. Our lot offers parking that is both convenient and accessible.
Does Lakeshore provide transportation to your facility?
No; however, we are on all forms of public transportation. There are also several private transport companies in the area. Ask for a transportation list at the front desk or call us at 205-313-7400.
Are there plenty of showers, bathrooms, and lockers?
Yes. We have large locker room facilities on both levels of the facility with ample accessible showers, toilets, lockers, as well as space and privacy. We also offer five private assisted/family dressing rooms located near the pool and fitness center, each equipped with an accessible shower, toilet, and lavatory. In addition, we offer two poolside bathrooms.

What if I’d like to bring a guest(s)?
We welcome guests. Each guest should fill out a guest waiver and will pay a $10 fee. Please note that prospective members with a qualifying condition who want to make a one-time visit as a guest can do so at no cost.
What if I cannot afford to pay?
As always, Lakeshore is committed to serving individuals with a physical disability or chronic health condition, regardless of their ability to pay full fees. Financial assistance is available for full or partial scholarships for those who qualify based on documented need.
