Lakeshore Finalist for RWJF Sports Award

Sept. 20, 2018 – Today, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the nation’s largest philanthropy dedicated solely to health, named Lakeshore Foundation a finalist for the 2018 RWJF Sports Award. The RWJF Sports Award recognizes sports teams, athletes and community-based organizations that use sports to catalyze and sustain changes to make communities healthier places to live, learn, work and play. Lakeshore applied in category 3: An organization in the United States or Canada that is an influential leader and model for improving community health through sports. More than 250 submissions from across the country were received in the category.

“Lakeshore is proud of its work and commitment to offer excellent facilities and programs for people with physical disabilities and chronic health conditions,” said Lakeshore President Jeff Underwood. “The power of sport challenges and enables our participants to push past any barriers they thought were limitations. Lakeshore and NCHPAD are committed to using our expertise in the areas of activity, research and advocacy to remove barriers which prevent people with disabilities from taking full advantage of opportunities for physical activity.”

This prestigious recognition from Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is further evidence of Lakeshore’s position as a global leader in changing the course of disability and health through our unmatched combination of physical activity, research and advocacy.
