Are you looking for a welcoming place with specialized staff where you can achieve your health and fitness goals? Lakeshore’s Veterans Program, funded by a grant from the State of Alabama, provides a free Lakeshore membership to ALL honorably discharged U.S. Veterans living in Alabama and their household family members.
What Lakeshore has to offer:
- Fieldhouse with three-court gymnasium and 200-meter Mondo surface track
- 6,000 sq. ft. fitness center with strength training and cardio equipment
- Diverse range of fitness and aquatics classes that are adapted to you and your goals
- Aquatics Center with two heated pools
- Indoor shooting (air rifle) and archery range
- Recreational and competitive adapted sport programs
- Online fitness classes

When applying for an Lakeshore Veteran membership, you must provide a copy of one of the following: your DD214, a valid Military ID, your VA Healthcare card, OR an Alabama Drivers License with a veteran stamp. All applications are subject to review.
The Cottages of Lakeshore
The Cottages of Lakeshore provide housing with a private, home-like atmosphere for out-of-town severely injured military participating in Lakeshore Veterans programs. However, the real benefit for these service members is being able to bring their entire family with them to share in their experience of regaining a healthy, active and independent lifestyle.
The Cottages, initiated by Capstone Companies, was built by its in-house construction company, Cottage Builders, and architectural partner Dungan Nequette along with sub-contractors and numerous partnering companies. The $2.3 million project became a reality through Operation Lakeshore, a 30-month fundraising initiative that involved 200 partnering companies, tremendous community support and hundreds of individual donors. The Cottages have LEED and Energy Star certifications.
