Team Sports

Lakeshore offers a wide range of adapted sports for adults age 18 and up with a physical disability. Lakeshore adult athletes and teams have a long history of athletic success including 12 national championships. Individuals who compete in Lakeshore athletics must join or be members of Lakeshore. Power Soccer – Lakeshore Power 
Wednesdays, 1:30 – 4 p.m.
October 5 – March
Power soccer is a sport for individuals with a physical disability. Athletes use power wheelchairs in this four-on-four indoor version of soccer. Daily power wheelchair use is not a requirement. The sport is governed by the United States Power Soccer Association. In addition to weekly practices, athletes compete in home, regional and national tournaments. Wheelchair Basketball – Lakeshore Storm (co-ed) & Lightning (women)

Wheelchair basketball is a sport for individuals with a lower body disability who meet the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) classification criteria. Wheelchair Football – Birmingham Hammers
Wheelchair Football is our newest sport, part of the newly established USA Wheelchair Football League. This sport is for individuals with a wide range of physical disabilities. For more information, contact Rob Welty at or 205-313-7457.

Wheelchair Rugby – Lakeshore Demolition
Mondays & Thursdays (optional), 6-8 p.m.
October 3-April 30

Wheelchair rugby is a sport for individuals with a disability or impairment in all four limbs. The sport is sanctioned by the United States Wheelchair Rugby Association (USWRA).
