Lakeshore’s vision – to create a world in which every person has the opportunity to live a healthy, active, independent life, can only be achieved when there is true equality, inclusion and access. As long as there are barriers such as racism, this vision cannot be realized. Inclusion that is limited by race or ability is not enough.
We are outraged and saddened by the death of George Floyd and grieve with his family and community. We stand in solidarity with our Black members, staff and community who are hurting and deserve justice. And we know more needs to be done.
We believe that there must be real action and change beyond making statements. We are committed to continuing our work by choosing partners who share our commitment to equality; facilitating more conversations about race and disability; listening actively to seek a better understanding; and using sport to bring people together. With the disability community, we will continue to advocate, educate and provide inclusive programming until our vision is achieved.
We know that we do not have all the answers – there is much to learn and do together.
