Registration for our 2026 Summer Youth Programs is now open! Youth daily aquatics, recreation and athletic programs are open to Lakeshore members ages 6 months to 18 with a physical disability, chronic health condition or visual impairment. Please contact  for more information regarding youth aquatics and  for more information regarding recreation programs. Summer Camps/Events

JAWS Camp – Ages 6 to 18
June 29 – July 2
Junior Ambulatory and Wheelchair Sports Camp (JAWS Camp) is a fun and exciting way to get introductory level instruction on a variety of adaptive sports which may include wheelchair basketball, tennis, sitting volleyball, power soccer, and swimming. All skill levels welcome and any necessary equipment will be provided. For more information, contact Lauren Perry at .

Inclusion Camp – Ages 6 to 18
July 20-23
Inclusion Camp is designed for youth with a physical disability, chronic health condition, and/or visual impairment and their siblings or a friend. Activities include adapted games, field trips, arts and crafts, and moreCamp will end with our Annual 1K Fun Dash. Camp Strive – Ages 4 to 19
June 5-7 OR August 7-9
Camp STRIVE is an overnight family camp for youth with a physical disability, chronic health condition or visual impairment and their immediate family (those living in their household). The weekend camp is held at Children’s Harbor on Lake Martin, and will include adapted water skiing, tubing, fishing, kayaking, boat rides, mini golf, and lake or pool swimmingFor more information, contact Lori Watkins at .

Aquatics

Youth One-on-one Services – Age 3 to 18
Private Swim Lessons and Personal Training:
$36/half hour; 6 sessions for $195; 12 sessions for $360

Wet Tots – Age 6 months to 3 years
Mondays & Wednesdays, 9:30-10:15 a.m.
A parent/child class focusing on strength, flexibility and fine and gross motor skills. Advancement to further programs is subject to participant skill level and instructor recommendation.

*Learn to Swim – Age 3 to 12
Tuesdays, 10-10:45 a.m.
Wednesdays, 3-3:35 p.m.
Based on the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Program, this class focuses on basic water safety skills as well as developing the fundamentals of swimming in a fun environment.

Tadpoles – Age 3 to 12
Tuesdays, 10-10:45 a.m.
Wednesdays, 3:45-4:30 p.m.
Focuses on functional skills, balance, body awareness, movement and socialization in an aquatic environment. Tadpoles is designed to promote independence and expose participants to a variety of activities in which they can continue to do independently. Participants will wear a cervical flotation device. A parent/guardian may be required to participate in the class.

ACES (Active Children Exercise & Swim) – Age 4 to 18
Wednesdays, 3:45-4:30  p.m.
This program provides the opportunity to work on functional skills, balance, body awareness and other fundamental movement patterns in an aquatic environment. A small group setting provides opportunities for socialization and functional play.

*Advanced Swim – Age 6 to 18
Tuesdays, 9-9:45 a.m.
Wednesdays, 3-3:45 p.m.
Based on the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Program, this class focuses on basic water safety skills, as well as stroke refinement, speed and endurance.

Athletics

Lakeshore Foundation offers team & individual sports for youth with a physical disability ages 6 to 18. No prior athletic experience is required. Youth athletics participants must join or be current Lakeshore members. 

Swim Team – Age 6 to 18
Monday-Thursday, 4-6 p.m. (year-round)
Competitive league for youth with all types of physical disabilities and siblings without a disability. In addition to weekly practices, athletes may compete at local, regional and national meets. Beginning in April,  Tuesday practices will take place at the Birmingham Crossplex from 3 to 5 p.m. An optional practice session will be held at Lakeshore on Fridays from 8 to 10 a.m. starting Mary 29. Track and Field – Age 6 to 18
Individual practices are available by appointment year-round)
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6-7:30 p.m.
Competitive track and field for youth and adults with all types of physical disabilities (wheelchair, visual impairment and ambulatory). Practices will be held at Waldrop Stadium or Lakeshore’s Fieldhouse depending on weather and track availability. Contact: Kile Putman at .

Archery and Shooting – Age 6 to 18
Mondays and Wednesdays, 5-7 p.m. (February-July)

Wheelchair Tennis, Age 6 to 18
Saturdays, 9:30-11 a.m. (through June 28)
Athletes with a lower limb disability are invited to participate in our Youth Lakeshore Tennis team. Athletes must be able to independently push their chair and consistently make contact with a ball using a racket. Practices will be held at the Lakeshore Tennis Center or Lakeshore’s Fieldhouse depending on weather. Contact: Cliff Cook at
