Lakeshore will host two fundraising events in 2017, A Hero’s Welcome and Amazing Race.
A Hero’s Welcome
Lakeshore’s A Hero’s Welcome is an evening of expressing gratitude and support for our nation’s injured service members and their families. Since 2006, Lakeshore’s Lima Foxtrot program has served injured services members and their families from across the nation through adapted sports and recreation camps at no cost to the participants. Past speakers include three-time Paratriathlon World Champion and retired U.S. Army Lt. Melissa Stockwell, retired U.S. Army Sgt. Noah Galloway, Paralympic gold medalist and retired U.S. Navy Lt. Brad Snyder, General James E. Livingston and former President and CEO of the United Service Organizations (USO), Sloan D. Gibson.
Lakeshore’s Amazing Race, hosted by Lakeshore’s Junior Board, pits teams of four in a fun and challenging competition. Modeled after the television show The Amazing Race, participants “race” to complete interactive challenges designed specifically to build awareness of the capabilities of people with physical disabilities and to promote programs and resources available to community members at Lakeshore. Examples of past challenges include: sprinting down a track wearing a blindfold, guided by a sighted guide runner, or kayaking down the pool with one arm and hand immobilized.
