Lakeshore Foundation hosted the 2009 Youth Regional Qualifier this weekend. Eight varsity, junior varsity and prep wheelchair basketball teams as well as home teams, the Lakeshore Lakers and the Lakeshore Sharks, traveled from all over the Southeast to compete. On the prep side, the GA Eaglets took home the tournament championship followed by the Lakeshore Sharks. The Charlotte Bobcats won first for varsity, and Nashville’s Music City won second. “All the teams seemed to be real happy with how they played this weekend,” said tournament director Jen Armbruster. “Any time we can get this many teams together to play, it’s a success.” Music City’s E.J. Denning won the sportsmanship award and Abraham Hausman-Weiss won MVP for the prep division. For varsity and junior varsity, Christina Young, from the Georgia Blazers, took home the sportsmanship award and the Charlotte Bobcats’ Chris Baker won MVP. In March, both the Lakeshore Lakers and Lakeshore Sharks will head to Nationals in Denver, CO. The Lakers will begin play March 18th and The Sharks start the 20th.
