Department of Energy Project
Questions from June 28, 2010 Mandatory Pre-Proposal Meeting 1. Are construction documents or mechanical drawings available that will show how the vestibule area will attach to the ceiling? Drawings were provided for review at the meeting; no one requested copies of any pages. 2. Is the area required to be heated? Yes. Is the area required to be ventilated? No. 3. What city limits is the building in? Homewood. 4. Are architectural plans required by the City of Homewood so they can approve, for example, a life safety plan? Bidders should work with the City of Homewood to make sure all applicable permits are obtained. 5. Do we want the duplex outlets to be cut out and inserted to the brick wall, or surface mounted? The duplex outlets should be recessed into the brick. 6. Do we want to extend the flooring from the lobby area, or leave the existing flooring? Flooring is to be kept as is. 7. Will the doorways be used while construction is in process? Yes. 8. What type of lighting do we want? We don't have specific requirements for that; the existing lighting should be sufficient. 9. We would have to add additional sprinklers to the area, so we would need to go through the ceiling and have patch work done on the ceiling, correct? Yes - minimal patching. 10. Because the vestibule area will now extend closer to the street, are any types of barriers needed to protect the entryway from vehicles? Tom looked at the physical layout of the area and does not think this is necessary. 11. If subcontractors need to come to the facility to see the physical layout, would they first need to contact Tom? Yes, it is preferable to email Tom, just so we know they are coming. 12. When we extend the sprinkler lines the system would be offline; how would that be handled? We notify our insurance carriers if, for any reason, the sprinkler system if offline, and follow any of their recommendations. We would expect that downtime to be minimal. 13. What about the pipes that will now extend further out from the building? We need to use heat tape on those pipes. 14. Is it a wet or a dry sprinkler system? Wet system. 15. Who installed our sprinkler system? Central Fire. 16. Since we need to extend the speaker system out from the existing lobby area into the new vestibule area, who do we use for that? The contractor on this project would just need to run the lines out into the area. 17. Do we anticipate that some people will wait in the vestibule area for transportation? Yes; we need to plan for the timing of door closings so the doors will close behind them. 18. What changes will be needed for the card entry keypad (card swipe system)? The contractor on this project would need to relocate the card swipe to the outside of the new vestibule area.
