Wheelchair Rugby

Wheelchair rugby is open to individuals with various disabilities that preclude their play in able-bodied sport competition. Players must have a combination of upper and lower extremity impairment to be considered as eligible to participate. Most of the players have sustained cervical level spinal injuries and have some type of quadriplegia as a result.

The Lakeshore Demolition plays in the United States Quad Rugby Association and is recognized as one of the best wheelchair rugby programs in the nation.  The team won five consecutive national championships from 1999-2003 and athletes from the Demolition team have been selected to compete on the U.S. national team every year since 2000.

For more information on the Lakeshore Demolition, or if you are interested in joining the team, please contact Patty Cornelius at (205) 313-7433 or pattyc@lakeshore.org.
