2018 Demolition Derby

Join us February 2-4 for an exciting weekend of wheelchair rugby at the 21st edition of Demolition Derby. The tournament will feature seven adult teams from across the nation, including Lakeshore’s own Demolition. All games are free and open to the public. Invite your friends, bring the family and enjoy great competition!

    Day One of the 21st edition of Lakeshore’s Demolition Derby Wheelchair Rugby Tournament featured ten games with all seven teams hitting the court today. A great start to the tournament for the Texas Stampede and TIRR Texans as both teams finished the day undefeated at 3-0. The Stampede had wins against the MedStar NRH Punishers, Shepherd Smash, and the Cumberland Quadcrushers. The Texans took down Tampa, MedStar, and Lakeshore. Just behind the Stampede and TIRR in the clubhouse is Tampa at 2-1.

    Lakeshore’s Demolition fell to Tampa in their opener and lost to TIRR in tonight’s game. Lakeshore will be back on the court for the 9 a.m. game Saturday facing the Cumberland Quadcrushers.

    Lakeshore’s 2018 Demolition Derby features seven of the top teams in the nation over three days of competition. The team rosters include several Paralympians and current U.S. Training Squad members.     Day two of the 21st edition of Lakeshore’s Demolition Derby saw fierce competition and dominant wins by the top-ranked teams.

    Texas Stampede remains undefeated, with convincing wins over the Tampa Generals, TIRR Texans and Lakeshore Demolition. They finished the day 3-0 and improved to 6-0 for the tournament. The Stampede will be the number one seed heading into tomorrow’s finals. Shepherd Smash also had an impressive day, with wins over MedStar NRH Punishers, Lakeshore Demolition and TIRR Texans. The Smash roared back from a 1-2 finish on day one and ended today 3-0. They are now 4-2 for the tournament. Tampa Generals are on the heels of Texas and Shepherd, ending both days 2-1 and 4-2 for the tournament.

    It was a tough day on the courts for Lakeshore Demolition. They played in three hard fought matchups, but came up short against Cumberland, Shepherd, and top-ranked Texas.

    The final day of the 2018 Demolition Derby began with the Texas Stampede ranked on top and all other teams in a battle to advance to the third place and championship game. The morning matchups saw a close duel between Lakeshore Demolition and Medstar NRH Punishers. Lakeshore had good offensive contribution from Clayton Brackett and Bob Lujano and solid defense from Ben Tomlinson, but it was not enough to overtake the Punishers who won 50-43. On court one TIRR Texans cruised to a victory over the Cumberland Quadcrushers 46-17 and claimed a spot in the third place game against the Tampa Generals.

    The Tampa Generals and TIRR Texans faced off in the third place game. The first three periods were a close battle, but in the fourth, Tampa’s Anthony McDaniel could no longer be contained by TIRR’s defense. The Generals claimed a third place victory, 63-52

    The Demolition Derby championship game featured a USA Wheelchair Rugby stacked Texas Stampede vs. Shepherd Smash with its own national team athlete, Rob Deller. The Stampede came out strong and dominated the competition with contribution from the offensive trio of Pabon, Kirkland and Moylan and cruised to a 54-38 victory and the #DemoDerby2018 title.
